Tempur-Pedic’s Manhattan Flagship Store Named Retail Design Institute’s “Store of the Year”

At Tempur-Pedic®, we understand that quality sleep is the foundation for our overall health and well-being. As a result, we aim to develop only the best products for our customers to experience great sleep, night after night, across the world. And we strive to meet you wherever you are in your shopping journey – whether it’s online or in a retail store. We know that searching for a new mattress can be a stressful, confusing task – but it shouldn’t be. That’s why we’ve built more than 90 Tempur-Pedic® Flagship Stores across the country, each providing engaging and relaxing atmospheres, where shoppers like you can discover life-changing sleep. Our New York City store, located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, showcases the best of what Tempur-Pedic has to offer – and we’re proud it was awarded “Store of the Year” in 2021 by the Retail Design Institute.
Our flagship stores serve as the face of our brand, and we put great care into selecting their locations to ensure they can provide a transformative experience for our customers. The exceptional space of our Manhattan store inspired our team to go one step further. As Tempur Sealy International CEO Scott Thompson explains, “We hired a design architect to help us convert a former bank into a luxury bedding experience, taking into consideration the unique needs and mindset of the customer base.”
Our team knew the Manhattan store should provide customers with a reprieve from bustling, everyday city life. That’s why the design focused on the key themes of escapism, sustainability, access to nature, and multi-sensory experiences. Each zone within the space is curated to evoke the importance of mental and physical health.[1]
The store is sectioned out into different interactive zones to establish a structured experience for each shopper. The journey begins in our Engage Zone, where our Sleep Consultants learn more about your individual sleep needs. From there, customers move into our Experience Zone to enjoy quality relaxation. To create privacy, the design team built bed “pods” – intimate pockets of space furnished with our products for customers to explore. To encourage a calming ambiance – in stark contrast to the busy world outside – the team also installed revolving electronic panels. Each panel depicts different tranquil nature scenes and is refreshed for every season. Customers complete the journey in our Social and Create Zones; where you’re invited to decompress, learn more about our products, and create customized sleep systems.
The Manhattan location provides the ultimate Tempur-Pedic® experience, as our “Store of the Year” award confirms. Thompson reflects, “There was a lot of hard work that went into curating this unique retail experience for the New York consumer, and it has paid off as our efforts are being recognized by consumers and the retail design community alike.” We work to ensure all of our flagship locations provide top-tier customer service and shopping experiences.
