Tempur Sealy employees recently participated in the NAS Oceana STEM Laboratory and Air Show event, allowing students to experience a career in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. We introduced the community’s youth to the Tempur-Pedic® brand, TEMPUR® technology, and most importantly, helped to inspire young students to pursue their dreams. Our team discussed possible education and career paths as scientists or engineers at TSI. Additionally, the Tempur-Pedic® display offered an immersive learning experience to explain the science behind our TEMPUR-Material™. The students were encouraged to explore the display mattress built for the STEM Laboratory. One of the activities included dropping a golf ball on different foams to demonstrate the proprietary, energy-absorbing material that makes Tempur-Pedic® stand out among other competing brands.

The STEM Laboratory event began in Virginia Beach, VA, in 2016 and partners with the US Navy. Over the years, it’s grown exponentially and is the most prominent open house event, reaching over 24,000 students. Significant partnerships across multiple STEM disciplines, in collaboration with both military and civilian organizations, have created a STEM Lab that will engage, inspire, and connect students and the community to various educational opportunities. Students participate in real-world activities and challenges, encouraging them to think, hypothesize, and create. All participating corporations are invited to share and present formative, hands-on activities that can inspire local youth for their careers.

This collaboration was a great success, and Tempur Sealy employees had the opportunity to interact with approximately 2,000 students. This endeavor helped participants learn about our products and company and have a bit of fun along the way. In return, we had the pleasure of experiencing the positive impact STEM has on students across the country while sharing what Tempur-Pedic® offers to our communities and beyond.
